Nicole A. Grant

Director of Local Policy and Partnerships

As Director of Local Policy and Partnerships, Nicole works with grassroots organizations at the city and county level to help solve problems that have gone unaddressed for far too long. She is particularly passionate about public safety and police reform, economic justice, and workers’ rights.

Nicole joins The Fairness Project from the Mayor’s Office of Portland, Oregon, where she oversaw the continued implementation of reforms addressing policing policies and practices as part of a negotiated agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice, and created the framework for and established Portland’s community oversight board. Nicole also identified and implemented needed public safety reforms in Portland, including the development of a civilianized alternative to non-emergency calls for service. In addition, Nicole has demonstrated her passion for improving the lives of those in her community by working on housing, climate justice, and livability initiatives. Prior to working for the City of Portland, Nicole worked as a health care law attorney in Baltimore, Maryland.

A graduate of Yale University and Columbia Law School, Nicole is originally from the Washington D.C. area, and now resides in Portland, OR with her husband, stepson, twin daughters, and tabby cat. When she’s not spending time with her family, Nicole enjoys spirited debates, hiking, and adding to her ever-growing cookbook collection.
